easy peasy blogger bun

It's no secret the blogger bun has been all the rage for the better part of the last year, if not longer.  It's simple, cute, and most of all pretty easy.  The only thing that gets me is that my hair doesn't always cooperate.  Problem solved since surfing various websites and seeing that there's an easy solution to perfecting this little go-to hair style: a tube sock.  No need to buy any crazy hair accessories, just a tube sock people, but for other reasons than your teenage brother/cousin/neighbor might be buying them.  Best of all, this solution caters to those with shorter hair, so no one is left behind!  Check out this tutorial from Bumble and Bumble's Sloane Sera.

Floral Frenzy

Whether it's the warmer than anticipated winter or just a genuine love affair with flowers, floral prints seem to be ALL OVER pants for spring.  I've seen them on the runways, bloggers, and in displays in various stores.  It's obvious this trend is going to be thrown in our faces.  With that being said, I don't know if I'm on board yet.  First off, I try to keep prints, especially printed pants away from my hips.  Those things don't need any help standing out.  The people I've seen them on though look kind of cute [I'm still currently in the indifferent stage].  The thing that gets me the most is that so far, the only ones I've given a second glance are the ones just out of my price range for trends like this.

Would you all wear this trend?

winner

I have two things to say about the Academy Awards last night:  (1) I am absolutely in love with Michelle Williams' look in that gorgeous coral/red/orange Louis Vuitton peplum gown and (2) I still think Angelina Jolie has a penis.  That's all folks.

oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY FAVORITE TWINS LAURA AND SUSANNAH!!!!

Current Obsessions

My first encounter with this amazing top was Sunday at my local Kate Spade store.  It is 10x more beautiful in person.  I pictured myself wearing it with all sorts of things until I'm an old, retired woman telling my grandchildren about how fashionable I was as a young temptress [some of these statements might be slightly bias].  And then I looked at the price tag: $378.  Hmmm.  I think I'll wait.  Then on Monday when I was at the gym, I see Elisabeth Hasselbeck wearing it on The View.  REALLY?  So, after that, I felt like the shopping gods were telling me to find it.  I found it alright, at Nordstrom nonetheless, but it was already sold out.  So now it's just at Kate Spade and I am desperately trying to stay away.  We'll see how long this lasts.

etsy feature friday {froyo home}

Today's EFF is happening because of my addiction to decorating the house and/or space [due to overwhelming inspiration from pinterest] I do not currently own.  With this pinning craze, I've grown fond of curtains.  That's right, curtains.  Especially fun, printed varieties.  How boring right?  Except when hanging something like a non-permanent curtain completely changes the room!  And if you don't like it, move it around, or store it for later...no painting required. [thank ya Jesus]

I know you love them, so I went searching on etsy for a nice, heavy duty, top quality curtain with a fun print and discovered a bunch at Castle Creek Designs.  Their assortment is nothing too crazy, mostly simple stripes and prints, but I love them.  The colors are nice and the patterns are just basic enough to go with [almost] anything.  They come in various lengths [uber helpful] as well.

the hunt continues...

J.Crew is currently offering 20% off any purchase of $150+.  This is great news because I was waiting for a discount code for full-price merchandise to buy my latest obsession.  BUT, apparently I am much too cheap compared to my fellow shoppers because when I went to put the lovely piece of stitched up leather in my cart, IT WAS SOLD OUT.  W.T.F.  My heart breaks.  Even more so, because I know that as soon as this little discount code expires they will restock my bag just to annoy me.  In the mean time though I've found a bright light on the horizon, a horizon that is so, so far away because the price of this bag is so, so out of my budget.  The good news is that I can admire from a virtual distance and this item will never bankrupt me...mostly because I deem paying rent and eating among my priorities right under finding great things on sale.  The Reed Krakoff Boxer tote will be filling my dreams for the next few months, hell maybe years if I eventually save enough pennies and turn enough tricks.

such a classic, beautiful bag....til we meet again my dear friend.

nautical sleek

I recently saw an outfit, like the one I've put together below, in a magazine and thought it was a nice tweak to a look I already love [nautical].  The classics are present: oxford shirt, crisp white sweater, and loafers, but with added updates to make this look more on trend: cropped sweater, brights, heel to the loafers, and the classic preppy skirt's sexified cousin.  The skirt, bag, and heel add a sleekness to the outfit that would typically be considered more casual.

alternatives

I adore the look of the Cambridge satchels and everything that these bags represent: Britain, British accents, monogramming on neon leather, the reminder that we should appreciate our male populations choice to go to the dentist regularly at all.  The neon versions are my favorite, but for as little as I would probably end up wearing it I wanted to find an alternative that doesn't cost as much.  Enter another British retailer: TopShop.  Their Fluro Trim crossbody bag with just a touch of neon to keep it spicy is exactly what I was looking for and definitely fits the price requirement!  This bag will definitely add a nice pick-me-up to my current very versatile and neutral crossbody collection.
